Gate 49 is the gate of revolution. It carries a deep sense of principle about how people should be treated, and a willingness to reject what doesn't meet it. When a relationship, workplace or community crosses a line you hold sacred, something in you says no, and means it.

This gate sits in the Solar Plexus Center, the part of the chart tied to emotions and feelings that move in waves over time. • Line 1 (the Investigator) refuses from understanding. When you walk away, you can explain exactly why, because you've studied what's actually wrong. Just don't let the analysis stop you from acting when it's time.
• Line 2 (the Hermit) finds its no in solitude. Your clearest sense of what to reject comes after quiet time alone, not under group pressure. Retreat before you decide.
• Line 3 (the Martyr) learns principle by staying too long. You may have stayed in situations past the point your values allowed and felt the cost. Each one taught you when it's time to leave, so trust that knowing.
