What the Crown chakra is

The Crown chakra sits at the top of the head, the highest of the seven. Its Sanskrit name, Sahasrara, means "thousand-petaled," after the image of a lotus opening upward. In the chakra tradition it is the center of spirit and unity: the sense of being part of something vast, beyond the edges of your own story. Its tone in modern sound work is 963 Hz, the highest of the chakra tones.

DIVINE Sound does not pair any single planet with the Crown. Every other center has at least one planetary voice, but the Crown is left open, as the place where the whole chart comes together rather than one planet speaking. In a sound bath it often arrives last, a high, thin tone above everything else, like light at the top of a room.

Where the number comes from

The chakras come from Indian yogic and tantric traditions, which map the body as a column of centers rising along the spine. In many of those texts the Crown sits at or just above the top of the head and is described less as a center than as an opening beyond the others. Pairing each chakra with one of the Solfeggio tones (396, 417, 528, 639, 741, 852 and 963 Hz) is a modern sound-bath practice, not part of the old yogic texts. 963 Hz is the highest of that set. Sound healers often close a session with it.

Listening

Lie flat, arms loose at your sides, palms turned up. Let the 963 Hz tone play very softly, almost at the edge of hearing. Picture the top of your head as open, like a window left ajar. Let your breath slow on its own. Stay after the tone ends, in the quiet it leaves behind. That silence is part of the listening.
