What the Third Eye chakra is

The Third Eye chakra sits on the forehead, between and just above the brows. Its Sanskrit name, Ajna, means "command" or "perception." In the chakra tradition it is the center of intuition and inner sight: dreams, imagination, and the kind of knowing that arrives before you can explain it. Its tone in modern sound work is 852 Hz, high and bright, a sound that seems to hover rather than land.

DIVINE Sound pairs two planets with the Third Eye. Uranus, at 207.36 Hz, is the planet of sudden insight, freedom and the unexpected. Neptune, at 211.44 Hz, is the planet of dreams, imagination and the sense of something larger. Their tones sit only a few hertz apart, so when both are strong in your chart they shimmer against each other in your sound bath.

Where the number comes from

The chakras come from Indian yogic and tantric traditions, which map the body as a column of centers rising along the spine. In those traditions the point between the brows is the seat of inner vision, and many meditation practices rest the attention there. Pairing each chakra with one of the Solfeggio tones (396, 417, 528, 639, 741, 852 and 963 Hz) is a modern sound-bath practice, not part of the old yogic texts. 852 Hz carries the Solfeggio name Spiritual Order. Sound healers use it near the end of a session, as the sound grows lighter.

Listening

Lie down in a dim room and close your eyes. Let the 852 Hz tone play quietly. Rest your attention on the space between your brows without straining toward it. Notice any colors, shapes or images that drift through, and let them pass like weather. You don't need to interpret anything. Simply watch, and listen, and let the high tone carry you.
