What the Sacral chakra is

The Sacral chakra sits in the lower belly, a hand's width below the navel. Its Sanskrit name, Svadhisthana, is often translated as "one's own place." In the chakra tradition it is the center of feeling, pleasure, creativity and flow: the part of you that moves with the tide of what you want and what you feel. Its tone in modern sound work is 417 Hz, a soft, rounded sound with a gentle lift.

The Moon's tone in the Cosmic Octave is 210.42 Hz, found from the rhythm of her cycle, and in astrology she is the planet of mood, memory and the tides inside you. Where the number comes from

The chakras come from Indian yogic and tantric traditions, which map the body as a column of centers rising along the spine, each with its own name, element and image. In those traditions the Sacral center is linked with water. Pairing each chakra with one of the Solfeggio tones (396, 417, 528, 639, 741, 852 and 963 Hz) is a modern sound-bath practice, not part of the old yogic texts. 417 Hz carries the Solfeggio name Change. Sound healers often reach for it when a session calls for softening and movement.

Listening

Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Rest both hands on your lower belly and let the 417 Hz tone play. Breathe slowly into your hands and feel them rise and fall. If you like, let your knees sway a little from side to side as you listen. Let the sound move the way water does, with no destination.
