What Moon's tone is

In the Cosmic Octave, every planet has a tone of its own, found by taking the length of its cycle and doubling its frequency, octave after octave, until it lands in a range we can hear. The Moon moves from new to full and back to new in about 29.5 days. Carried up into hearing, that cycle becomes 210.42 Hz, a soft tone a little above the G sharp below middle C.

The Moon is the planet of feeling, instinct, memory and care: what soothes you, what you need, where you feel safe. Its tone is often described as gentle and rounded, a sound that rocks rather than pushes.

Where the number comes from

The Cosmic Octave was worked out by the Swiss mathematician and musicologist Hans Cousto in the late 1970s. It isn't a mystical assignment: it's arithmetic applied to the real orbit of each planet. What people make of the tones is where the tradition begins. For the Moon, Cousto used the synodic month, the time from one new Moon to the next. Sound healers pair the Moon with the sacral center, and DIVINE Sound pairs her with the Solfeggio tone of 528 Hz, which tradition links with transformation.

Listening

Many people use the Moon tone in the evening, or near the new and full Moon, as a way to slow down and feel what's there. Try it lying down, with a hand resting on your lower belly. Let your breath follow its own pace. Notice any feeling that rises without trying to name it. The practice is simply listening.
