What Sun's tone is

In the Cosmic Octave, the planets each have a tone found by taking the rhythm of an orbit and doubling it, octave after octave, until it lands in a range we can hear. The Sun is the center they all circle, and it has a tone of its own in the same system: 126.22 Hz, a low, full note, with a deeper octave at 63.11 Hz.

In astrology the Sun is who you are at the center: your identity, your will, your warmth and what makes you feel most alive. Its tone is often described as steady and bright, a sound that seems to sit you upright and bring you back to yourself.

Where the number comes from

Hans Cousto, the Swiss mathematician and musicologist who worked out the Cosmic Octave in the late 1970s, gave the Sun a place in the same set of tones as the planets. It is arithmetic, not a mystical assignment. What people make of the tones is where the tradition begins. Listening

Many people reach for the Sun tone in the morning, or when they feel scattered and want to come back to center. Sit comfortably, let your spine lengthen, and rest one hand just above your navel. Let the tone fill the room for a few minutes. Notice whether your breath settles lower. There's nothing to achieve: the practice is simply listening.
