What Jupiter's tone is

In the Cosmic Octave, every planet has a tone of its own, found by taking the length of its orbit and doubling its frequency, octave after octave, until it lands in a range we can hear. Jupiter takes almost 12 years to circle the Sun. Carried up into hearing, that slow rhythm becomes 183.58 Hz, a broad tone just under the F sharp below middle C.

Jupiter is the planet of growth, meaning, luck and generosity: where life opens up for you, what you believe in, where you're inclined to say yes. Its tone is often described as expansive and warm, a sound that seems to widen the room around you.

Where the number comes from

The Cosmic Octave was worked out by the Swiss mathematician and musicologist Hans Cousto in the late 1970s. It isn't a mystical assignment: it's arithmetic applied to the real orbit of each planet. What people make of the tones is where the tradition begins. Sound healers pair Jupiter with the solar plexus, and DIVINE Sound pairs him with the Solfeggio tone of 528 Hz, which tradition links with transformation.

Listening

Many people use the Jupiter tone when life feels small or tight and they want a sense of space. Try it sitting with your palms open on your knees and your gaze soft. Let each breath be a little wider than the last. Notice what widens with it. There's nothing to do: the practice is simply listening.
