What the Solar Plexus chakra is

The Solar Plexus chakra sits above the navel, just under the ribs, around the stomach. Its Sanskrit name, Manipura, means something like "city of jewels." In the chakra tradition it is the seat of will and self: your confidence, your drive, the warmth you bring into a room. Its tone in modern sound work is 528 Hz, a bright, clear sound, probably the best known of all the Solfeggio numbers.

DIVINE Sound pairs three planets with this center. The Sun, at 126.22 Hz, is who you are at your core. Mars, at 144.72 Hz, is how you act and assert yourself. Jupiter, at 183.58 Hz, is growth, generosity and faith. All three are planets of fire and outward motion, which is why they gather here. When they are strong in your chart, this center becomes a main voice in your sound bath.

Where the number comes from

The chakras come from Indian yogic and tantric traditions, where the body is mapped as a column of centers rising along the spine. In those traditions the Solar Plexus is linked with fire. Pairing each chakra with one of the Solfeggio tones (396, 417, 528, 639, 741, 852 and 963 Hz) is a modern sound-bath practice, not part of the old yogic texts. 528 Hz carries the Solfeggio name Transformation. Sound healers often place it in the middle of a session, as the point where the sound turns from settling to brightening.

Listening

Sit upright, with your spine long and your shoulders easy. Rest one hand just above your navel and let the 528 Hz tone play. On each breath in, feel your hand lift a little. On each breath out, let your shoulders drop. Notice any warmth in the middle of you. If your mind wanders, bring it back to your hand, and to the clear, bright line of the tone.
